Fast Playing Games

At any time during a season you can choose to quickly play a portion of the scheduled games using the Fast Play dialog.  The Fast Play dialog is available in the toolbar located just above the Schedule Maintenance Pane.

When fast playing games, the computer manager will attempt to use As-Played lineups if they were imported when the schedule was created (see Managing a Season for more information about As-Played lineups).  If As-Played lineups are not available, the computer manager will consult the team profile (if one exists).  If there is not a valid lineup in the team profile, the computer manager will do its best to generate a working lineup.

The Fast Play dialog has several options that allow you to control how the games will be played.  These options are explained below:

  • Selecting Games to Fast Play: This option gives you several choices for specifying what games you would like to fast play.  You can play the currently selected game in the schedule (if one is selected), or all the games remaining on the current day, week, or month in the current schedule.  Or you can choose to play the entire season.
  • Use as-played lineups if they exist: If checked, the computer manager will use the as-played starting lineups and starting pitchers specified in the schedule (see Managing a Season for more information about as-played lineups).  If the schedule does not contain as-played lineups, the Team Profile will be used to set lineups.  If a Team Profile was not specified, then the computer manager will do its best to select a starter and a lineup.
  • Save boxscores and play-by-play: Unchecking this option will prevent Digital Diamond Baseball from saving boxscores and play-by-play accounts during fast play.  This will speed up the fast play feature, but of course at the expense of NOT having the boxscores to peruse when the games are completed.
  • Halt if team profile does not contain valid lineups: Checking this option causes the fast play command to halt if the game it is attempting to play contains an invalid lineup.  Invalid lineups typically happen one of two ways.  Either the as-played lineups do not match the roster (often caused by mistakenly using an as-played schedule after conducting a draft), or the team profile is not in-sync with the team roster (often caused by trades or de-activations that took place after the profile was created).  The best way to determine if the problem is with a team profile is to view a team profile report.  The report will highlight players in red that have been traded or inactivated since the team profile was updated.  If you uncheck this option, and the engine encounters an invalid lineup, the computer manager will generate a default lineup and the game will be played.
  • Select DH League: This option allows you to select a league that should use the designated hitter rule.  If the home team belongs to the specified league, the DH will be used.  If all of your leagues use the DH, select All.  If neither league uses the DH, select None
  • Start/Stop: The Start/Stop button allows you to start and stop fast playing games.
